South African coach Pitso Mosimane has broken his silence on his former side Al Ahly after they edged Wydad Athletic Club to win a record-extending 11th CAF Champions League title on Sunday.

Mosimane was on hand to congratulate the Egyptian giants following a 3-2 aggregate victory after the game ended 1-1 during the second leg at the Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca.

"Congratulations to the Red Eagles, Red Army, coach and technical team, President Bebo Khatib and the board; after many years, you have figured out how to win this Cup," Mosimane tweeted.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana head coach also credited his compatriot Percy Tau, who he brought to the club in 2021 from English side Brighton and Hove Albion, naming him as his player of the tournament.

"Patriotic Lion of Judah wearing the respectable South African Flag. That Flag is notorious for winning major trophies in different countries and continents."

"Thank God injuries gave you a break to show your talent. My player of the tournament and a Champion of Africa," Mosimane added.

The 29-year-old has been in devastating form for the Egyptian giants, scoring five goals and creating five assists in as many games as he inspired his side to an eleventh interclub crown.

Overall, Tau has now won five trophies with Al Ahly, two Egyptian Super Cups, one Egyptian Cup, one CAF Super Cup and one CAF Champions League.

Pitso Mosimane unceremoniously left Al Ahly in June 2022, three months after penning a new two-year deal; he had led them to back-to-back CAF Champions League titles and two CAF Super Cup titles.

'Jingles', who is currently at Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli, a side he helped gain promotion back to the Saudi top flight last season, also won the Egyptian Cup.
