Mosimane, who won the Yelo League with Al Ahli in April 2023, is now a free agent and can join any team along with his technical team.

One of Africa’s most successful and sought-after coaches in Pitso Mosimane is back on the streets jobless after terminating his contract with newly promoted Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.

Mosimane, who won the Yelo League with Al Ahli in April 2023, is now a free agent and can join any team along with his technical team.

However, the development doesn’t come as a surprise after ‘Jingles’ confirmed a few weeks ago that he, alongside his technical staff and players, hadn’t been paid since January.

According to SABC Sports, a South African online publication, the former Mamelodi Sundowns, and Bafana Bafana head coach, through his legal representatives, wrote to the Jeddah-based club 15 days ago, notifying them of his intention to terminate his contract.

Pitso’s camp is now expected to send another letter demanding that they are paid what is due to them as a technical team of four coaches, including his assistant Maahier Davids, match performance analysts Musa Matlaba and Kyle Solomon, as well as physical conditioner Kabelo Rnagoanga.

The FIFA’s regulations that clear a player or technical team member who hasn’t been paid in two months and can go ahead and terminate their contract with the club also rules in favour of the South African tactician.

What next?

Moismane returns to free agency at a very exciting time as top African clubs search for top coaches.

South African giants Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly talking to different top coaches, including current Young Africans head coach Nabi Nasreddine as they look to replace current head coach Arthur Zwane.

Mamelodi Sundowns have also not renewed Rulani Mokwena’s contract, although it looks unlikely that the current PSL champions will make any changes.

Mosimane left Egyptian giants Al Ahly in 2022 after guiding them to back-to-back CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cup titles and the Egyptian Cup as well.
