Plateau United will play Rangers in one of the two 2023 Federation Cup semi final matches on Wednesday, May 31.

Plateau United's head coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has vowed that his side would end the run of Rangers when they meet in the semifinals of the 2023 Federation Cup.

Following their respective quarterfinal victories over Kwara United and Doma United, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) sides were paired for a meeting at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode.

Ilechukwu confident Plateau United can edge Rangers

Speaking ahead of their encounter on Wednesday, Ilechukwu boasted that his team would approach their semi-final match against Rangers like a Cup final.

“We play Rangers next in the semi-final and of course, they are a team we know very well. We have no choice but to beat them to ensure qualification to the cup final," Ilechukwu said on Monday.

“I must confess that they are a very formidable side and it will therefore not be an easy game for us as we look forward to this very important encounter.

“I think we have a few things to address in the team, especially in the midfield as we prepare for the semi-final. So, we will ensure we go back to the drawing board and work very hard on all our lapses ahead of the crucial encounter,” he added.

The winner of their tie will then proceed to the 2023 final to face either three-time champions Bendel Insurance, or 2013 runners-up Warri Wolves.

Champions of the 2023 edition of Nigeria's Federation Cup will represent Nigeria at the 2023/24 edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Jos-based side won their first and only Federation Cup in 1999 and will bank on making 2023 their second.
