Police Football Club has confirmed an overhaul of its technical team ahead of the 2023/24 FUFA Big League season.

As earlier reported by Pulse Sports Uganda, head coach Angelo Lonyesi and his entire backroom staff have been relieved of their duties in preference for Proline Football club coach Simon Peter Mugerwa.

“We can officially confirm dissolving our coaching staff that has ASP Angelo Lonyesi (Head Coach), Sgt Yiga David (Assistant Coach) and Goalkeepers Coach SPC Kanene Faisal with immediate effect,” part of the statement published on the club’s social media accounts reads.

“Going forward, the outgoing team will be re-assigned other responsibilities since they still serve as active Police officers.”

Lonyesi and the technical team fell short of guiding Police FC back to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and lost to Vipers SC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup finale.

The club appreciated their service, noting, “With their devoted hearts, the Cops came short of top-flight return, finishing 4th in the FBL and runners up in the Uganda Cup during their season-long spell in the 2022/23 campaign.”

“We appreciate the outgoing technical team for its tireless efforts in seeing the club reach greater heights and wish them well in their next endeavours.”

Mugerwa has reportedly agreed terms with the 2005 Uganda Premier League champions and has been handed the responsibility of leading the club back to top-flight football.

The 2019 and 2022 Masaaza Cup winning coach is expected to be unveiled soon.
