Mateu Lahoz's Disapproval
Former La Liga referee Mateu Lahoz has expressed his bewilderment over the disallowed goal scored by Raphinha for Barcelona against Las Palmas. In a recent appearance on Movistar, Lahoz heavily criticised the decision, labelling it as "an embarrassment."
He went on to highlight the perceived unfairness of penalising Raphinha for being in an offside position despite not interfering with the initial phase of play.
“It’s an embarrassment. It’s crazy that this goal is ruled out. Raphinha is only in that position, there is no influence. He can’t be punished. How is it Raphinha’s fault for being in that position," he said, according to GSFN.
Backlash from Barcelona Supporters
Fans and supporters of Barcelona have vehemently opposed the ruling, citing it as yet another glaring error in the implementation of VAR technology. The frustration among the Blaugrana faithful was palpable, with many questioning the competence of the officiating team involved in the match against Las Palmas.
The controversial call that annulled Raphinha's goal has reignited the ongoing debate surrounding the use of video assistant refereeing in football.
