Simba now move to third position on three points while the Venoms sit bottom of the group with a point after three match days.

Simba Sports Club head coach Roberto Oliviera cut a long smile at the post-match press conference after Simba’s win against Vipers in Kampala.

The Brazilian coach who took over at Msimbazi in January was under increasing pressure due to the club’s poor start in the CAF Champions League but said after the 1-0 win that he is positive the team will perform better.

“I am a positive person in life, yes, it is true we have lost games but we have also played very well (against Horoya and Raja Casablanca). So, I am very optimistic that we shall have the consistency.”

Simba’s victory on Saturday was their first in the group stages this season and with the return leg happening in Dar-es-Salaam in early march, Oliviera adds that building relationships around the team is helping him get along.

“Step by step the players understand my style and I also understand my players. I am also building a good relationship with the coaches around me and that is the environment which will help all of us win.”

DR Congo centre back Henock Inonga Baka scored the only goal of the game after 20 minutes which earned Simba the maximum points.
