Posta Rangers defender recounts a tense moment with coach Patrick Odhiambo, highlighting the passion and resilience in football.

Posta Rangers central defender Kennedy Owino has opened up about his memorable and intense relationship with his former coach Patrick Odhiambo.

The two had worked together back in 2019 during their time at Sony Sugar FC before reuniting at Gor Mahia in 2020, only to part ways once again.

Their paths crossed once more when Posta Rangers faced off against Homeboyz in a thrilling Football Kenya Federation Premier League match that ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw on Thursday 2 November.

Owino's revelation shed light on a dramatic incident that occurred during their time together at Sony, which involved a penalty and a coach who was dejected by conceding the spot kick.

"While at Sony FC, I caused a penalty as the game neared its end, with us leading 1-0 in a match against Mathare United. The game eventually ended in a 1-1 draw," he wrote.

The match, played at Awendo Stadium on February 17, 2019, saw Sony FC take the lead through Tobias Otieno before Chrispine Oduor leveled the score with a penalty in the dying minutes.

What happened next was a tense and unforgettable encounter between Owino and coach Patrick Odhiambo.

"As I entered the dressing room, Coach Patrick Luwowo (Odhiambo) was waiting for me at the door with his fist clenched, resembling Mike Tyson's. I couldn't help but think, 'This one is hitting me today.' In response, I clenched my fist, channeling my inner Muhammad Ali," Owino recalled.

Owino's candid account of the incident sheds light on the passionate nature of the coach-player dynamic in football.

Coaches often invest their emotions and energy into molding their players, and moments of frustration can arise when expectations are not met.

However, as Owino's anecdote illustrates, these intense interactions can also be sources of motivation and growth for the players.

Despite the tense moment in the dressing room, Owino and Odhiambo have clearly moved past it, and their recent reunion on the football pitch demonstrated their mutual respect and sportsmanship.

Football has a unique ability to forge bonds and memories that withstand the test of time, and their story serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of the sport.
