Some signings that have come as a surprise to many people and here are some of them
The 2022/23 summer transfer window has been busy ever since it was opened. There are some signings that have come as a surprise to many people and here are some of them.
1. Gareth Bale
Gareth Bale’s exit from Real Madrid didn’t come as a surprise especially after falling out with the majority of Real Madrid fans but then his destination shocked many. His career at Madrid was injury prone despite earning much weekly.
Everyone knew that Bale was exiting Real Madrid as a free agent and they were expecting him to join a top-flight team but then he ended up joining Los Angeles FC which plays in Major League Soccer in the US.
Bale is a highly rated winger and his move to the MLS is still being talked about with some pundits linking it to a lot of money that he will be earning. He will undoubtedly perform but then was his move to Major League Soccer a smart one?
2. Raheem Sterling
Raheem Sterling signed recently for Chelsea on a permanent deal until 2027. Sterling had been linked to Real Madrid even before the transfer window was opened.
On the other hand, could Chelsea have signed him after missing out on Raphinha who is set to join Barcelona? Was signing Sterling a desperate move? City letting Sterling leave without hesitation has also surprised many.
How do you rate Sterling’s move to Chelsea?
3. Tyrell Malacia
Most of the Manchester United only got to know Tyrell Malacia after his imminent move to the theatre of dreams from Feyenoord.
Malacia’s move to United is to bolster the defence considering Manchester United conceded many goals last season as they were shaky at the back.
He will be competing with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles for the left-back spot and only God knows who will be handed more playing time. His move obviously shocked United fans considering he was unknown to most of them and now here he is fighting for a spot. Manchester United has in the past been known for signing players with ‘big’ names.
4. Kalidou Koulibaly
The defender’s move to Chelsea seems to be a desperate only when you come to realize that Chelsea have paid a whopping £40 million for his services. Koulibaly had only one year remaining in his Contract with Napoli.
Chelsea had earlier on been linked with Nathan Ake from Manchester City before switching to Koulibaly. Koulibaly has established himself as one the best defenders and he will perform at Chelsea for sure.
The only question at the moment being asked by many people is if he is worth that much and if his move was necessary considering they were already in talks with Ake and Man City.
5. Raphael Dias Belloli (Raphinha)
The Raphinha saga has finally come to an end after signing for Barcelona. Chelsea had agreed with Leeds United to sign Raphinha and everything was in place for him to cross over to London.
He ended up turning down Chelsea’s offer and only wanted to join Barcelona. The turn of events in regards to his transfer were not pleasing as the negotiations between Leeds and Barcelona stalled at some point due to a common transfer fee not being agreed upon.
Leeds was also trying to be respectful as Chelsea was ready to pay for Raphinha’s fee as they had already agreed before Barcelona came into the scene.
All in all’ his move to Barcelona was finalized yesterday and that’s what matters most. The best that all football fans can do at the moment is to wish him well in his new chapter.
