The newly promoted Premier League side Luton Town are preparing for life in the top division for the first time and now have four Nigerians in their squad.
Newly promoted Premier League side Luton Town had made Nigerian winger Chiedozie Ogbene their first signing of the summer.
Ogbene has joined the club on a free transfer from Championship side Rotherham United according to the club's social media account.
According to the club, the talented winger, who is the first African to play for the Republic of Ireland, will officially become a Hatter on July 1, 2023.
With his signing, Luton now have four Nigerians at the club, with the trio of Elijah Adebayo, Gabriel Osho, and Fred Onyedinma, who all played decisive roles in their historic promotion last season.
Luton Town’s new boy: A brief
The 26-year-old kicked off his football journey at Irish club Cork City before moving on to Brentford in 2017 and Exeter City on loan.
He would seal a move to Rotherland two years later where he went on to make 136 appearances for the Millers across four seasons.
Edozie, who scored 36 goals for the club, was involved in two promotions to the Championship with the club.
However, last season, he scored nine goals and assisted four more as Rotherham finished 19th in the English Championship.
Edozie can't wait to start
Speaking after he was unveiled by the club, the speedy winger could not hide his excitement.
According to him, it is the dream of every player to feature in the Premier League and he is quite excited to get the chance.
“I’m just excited to be here. To feature in the Premier League is everyone’s dream and I’m really happy for the opportunity.”
Edozie earned his first cap in June 2021 for Ireland, and has scored four goals in 15 games for the Boys in Green
