President Ruto has ordered the development of a modern transport system to ensure smooth access to the Talanta Sports City Stadium.

President William Ruto has ordered the construction of a seamless transport system in and out of the Talanta Sports City Stadium.

The world-class facility is predicted to host 60,000 people and is set to be completed early next year, around February, as Kenya prepares to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

However, accessibility of the stadium has proven to be a major challenge, with the contractor anticipating a tough time for the fans.

However, this will soon be addressed as President Ruto is in conversation with the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport Davis Chirchir. He made the call during a visit to the facility on Friday, April 11.

As reported by Nairobi Leo, the president acknowledged that fans need a lifetime experience and acknowledged that transport should not hinder them from that rare opportunity.

The president directed the Cabinet Secretary to initiate the development of a modern rail system to ensure smooth and efficient access to the stadium.

Additionally, he also instructed the engineers at the facility to enhance the energy supply by installing solar panels to supplement electricity from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).

"Where it is that we can place solar panels, we should. I am very happy with this," the president said.

President Ruto was addressing the issue that was raised by one of the engineers. The engineer noted that upon the stadium’s completion, transportation for sports fans is likely to pose the greatest challenge

"The major issue will be the transport, the flow of 60,000 people... We have had a meeting with the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on which roads need to be expanded," the engineer said.

Why is Talanta Sports City different from others?

The ultramodern stadium is different from other local stadiums like Nyayo National Stadium and the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani since it will meet all FIFA requirements.

The facility is being built to FIFA standards, rendering it fit to host top-tier international sporting competitions.

The stadium will not have a track as it will only be built for purposes of football and rugby. However, separate adjacent fields will be constructed to cater for athletics.

Construction of the Talanta Sports City Stadium commenced on March 1 last year and is slated for completion by February next year.

The project is being executed by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), with oversight from the Kenya Defence Forces Engineering Department.
