Erik ten Hag faces intense pressure to revive Manchester United after their worst season despite past success at Ajax.

In football when things fail to go according to plan and a team registers lacklustre performances, a lot of people can be held accountable. The fans are normally the frontliners when it come to a demand for results and accountability.

The fans start to air out what they think could be the problem . Sometimes it is the owners for not properly running the club, sometimes it’s the players but most times, the managers are the ones who get stoned most.

A good example is Erik ten hag. After he replaced Ralf Ragnick in 2022 for the top job, most people especially united fans were sure that they would be title contenders but as the season went on, these hopes were deflated as they went to register the worst season in their history.

Considering ten hag’s success at Ajax, coming to united after steering ajax to their second consecutive domestic title under his watch, much was expected from him to mirror that at United.

United went on to have their worst season in their history finish 8th in the league, in his second season in charge.

They had an all-time season low goal figure of 49, 14 losses in the league, most goals conceded (58) and just as Ten Hag seemed to want to break his all-time united record of fewest wins, he managed a total of 18 wins, the lowest being 16 in 2021/22 season when he was still in charge.

Ten Hag had to deliver a bitter speech at the end of the final match day promising united fans that he would bring the FA cup home which he did and eventually saved his job.

Now imagine the pressure on him. The players are not at their best, the fans who are the most important body in a football club jeer after every 90 minute underperformance, all the employees working at different departments within the club are unhappy and a dark cloud of grim fills the stadium and the reason? The coach could be the cause of all this.

To overcome this, or rather to bring balance and order to the team, the coach has to have the mental fortitude to be able to steer the team back to glory all while maintaining composure and a positive attitude in the heat of a press conference.

United now having decoded to retain ten hag, will be hoping that he brings the glory back to United as they march on! On! On!
