The Black and Yellow could go top of the table this weekend, although Bayern Munich will not want that to happen.
It is gameweek 23 in the 2022/2023 Bundesliga season, and there are a couple of exciting matches to look out for this weekend.
Last weekend had twists and turns, but Bayern Munich kept their position at the top after beating Union Berlin in the top-of-the-table clash.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund stayed joint-top with the Bavaria giants after edging out Hoffenheim.
Leipzig moved into the top four after beating Eintracht Frankfurt, but Freiburg dropped out following a 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.
This weekend could see teams swap places again, so it promises to be exciting.
Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig
Dortmund could go top, at least for 24 hours, if they beat RB Leipzig in Friday night’s football action.
The Black and Yellow have been the best team in the league since the turn of the year. Dortmund have won all nine games they have played in 2023, including six league games.
They are on a run of seven straight wins in Bundesliga and will be hoping to make it eight against Leipzig.
However, Leipzig are not doing badly, either, as they are unbeaten in 14 of their last 15 league games.
The Red Bulls have only lost one league game this year and come into this game on the back of a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
While Dortmund are the in-form team, Leipzig have the better head-to-head record in recent games.
Marco Rose’s men have won the last three games between the two sides, so will feel confident in their chances of getting something from the game.
A win for Leipzig will take them one point behind their opponents, but Dortmund will also be eager to get the three points.
FC Union Berlin vs FC Cologne
Union Berlin’s title aspirations suffered a minor blow last week after they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich.
However, Urs Fischer’s men should not feel ashamed after losing to Bayern because the Bavaria giants are the best team in Germany for a reason and have made better teams look worse.
The good news for Union is that they are still in the title race and can even go joint top, depending on other results.
The Iron Ones welcome FC Cologne to Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday and will feel confident in their chances.
They are unbeaten in nine of the last ten matches against the Bily Goats. Cologne are not in the best run of form right now, as they have failed to score in four of their last five games.
It does not look like it will end on Saturday, as they are winless in their last four games against Union.
VFB Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich
Bayern have had an inconsistent start to the year, but they are still joint-top of the Bundesliga table.
However, they need to get their acts together, starting with the clash against Stuttgart. By the time they kick off on Saturday evening, Julian Nagelsmann could be three points behind Dortmund.
Bayern will go into the clash against Stuttgart as the outright favourites. They have won all of their last 12 away matches against Stuttgart in all competitions and are also unbeaten in 14 of their last 15 league games.
Meanwhile, Stuttgart are in for a tough game on Saturday evening, even though they are at home. The Reds have lost four of their last five games and are just above the relegation zone.
Bayer Leverkusen vs Hertha Berlin
It has not been a great season for Bayer Leverkusen but they can still salvage something out of it, starting with the clash against Hertha Berlin.
Xabi Alonso’s men will be hoping to move into the top half of the table with a win against the capital side on Sunday.
However, they are in for a tough ride on Sunday as they have won just one of their last seven games against Hertha.
Hertha are not fairing well either, but they have managed to get themselves out of the relegation zone after winning two of their last five games.
The Old Lady have been poor on the road, however, losing eight of their ten away trips this season.
But if they are able to manage a rare win, they could go five points clear of the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, other games taking place this weekend include FSV Mainz’s clash against Hoffenheim on Saturday.
Borussia Monchengladbach host Freiburg the same time Augsburg take on Werder Bremen. At the same time on Saturday, VFL Bochum welcome Schalke 04.
VFL Wolfsburg wrap up the weekend action with a clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
