Gusii FC strengthened their chase for top-flight football with a deserved 2-1 victory over Mwatate United in Thursday's only National Super League (NSL) fixture at Simeon Nyachae Stadium in Kisii.
The Kisii-county-based side went into the encounter eight points behind second-placed Murang'a Seal and were itching to bounce back after a 1-0 loss to Mara Sugar.

Gusii doubled their lead eight minutes before the match courtesy of Bravo Otieno's neat finish into the top of the corner to make it 2-1.

The dying minutes were more about controlling the game for Guisii, who hung on for a hard-fought victory, which saw them move to fourth place on the table with 41 points while Mwatate dropped to 13th position on the standings.
