PSG's luck with injuries and illnesses seems to be getting worse

Sources close to Paris Saint-Germain revealed that the club was hit by a stomach bug ahead of their 3-1 defeat to Monaco in Ligue 1.

PSG players hit with stomach bug

PSG were roundly beaten by third-place Monaco at the Stade Louis II, their second defeat to a top side in what is meant to be a crucial month in Ligue 1 for the reigning champions.

A brace from Wissam Ben Yedder and another goal from Alexander Golovin were enough to give Monaco a famous victory against the league leaders; however, their defeat this time may have been facilitated by their camp being affected by a stomach bug just hours before the match.

Players reported symptoms of vomiting, stomach aches, and fatigue, which undoubtedly hampered preparations for the crunch tie with Monaco.

Already battered by a spate of injuries, which meant they missed out on the talents of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Marco Verrati, Nordi Mukiele, and Renato Sanches, PSG were also forced to deal with illness that almost certainly affected how they played against Monaco.

PSG’s title charge hits a snag

The resulting 3-1 loss to Monaco means that PSG are now only seven points away from Les Rouge et Blanc on the table and are only five points ahead of Marseille, who are currently second on the table.

They play Marseille at the Velodrome in Ligue 1 next week, and a defeat in that game could see the points gap reduce to only two points. As Marseille knocked them out of the Coupe de France at the same location barely a week ago, this is a real concern for PSG.

Before the Marseille game, PSG will also have to contend with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and they will be hoping that their players would have recovered fully from the stomach bug before the round of 16 tie.
