Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler has received heavy criticism from sections of supporters for comments they've termed racist.

In Liverpool's 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at Anfield, Tyler said South Korea forward Son Heung performed martial arts as he fouled Cody Gakpo.

The 30-year-old, who scored Tottenham's second goal, pulled Gakpo from the ball in a duel, drawing the comments that have thrown Tyler into trouble.

"Martin Tyler just said Son did martial arts on Gakpo? Wow, isn't that racist!" a fan exclaimed on Twitter.

Another added, "Did I just hear Tyler refer to Son's tackle as martial arts, like? Are we not taking that as a racist comment?"

"Pains me to say it, but I think it's time for Sky to retire Martin Tyler. Racist," said another.

"Martin Tyler's martial arts comment on Son was disgusting, xenophobic and racist," another added in a string of backlash.

The Mirror has quoted a Sky Sports spokesperson apologising: "Martin Tyler has been reminded of the need for care with his wording. No offence was intended."

It's worth recalling that Tyler was recently forced into an apology after claiming Ukraine goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan 'should soldier on' after picking an injury in a game against Wales, with the conflict in the Eastern European country.
