High-stakes playoff match to determine the last team in the National Super League.

Rainbow FC has achieved a momentous feat by securing promotion to the National Super League (NSL).

The Red Army claimed the top spot in the FKF Division One Zone A with an impressive tally of 68 points, marking their ascendancy to the next tier of Kenyan football.

Despite a nail-biting 1-0 loss to Kibra United in their final league match at Dagoretti High School Grounds on a Saturday afternoon, Rainbow’s consistency throughout the season earned them the well-deserved promotion.

The tense clash against Kibra saw the Red Army battling fiercely to maintain their winning streak, but a first-half penalty by Mohammed Anaba proved to be the deciding factor.

However, the loss did little to dampen the spirits of Eric Macharia's squad, as their overall performance throughout the season had already solidified their position at the top of the league table.

Rainbow finished the Division One Zone A league ahead of second-placed Nairobi United who gave their all in their final match against Balaji FC, walking away with a convincing 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Isaac Omweri and Brian Lusamukha

The Red Army’s promotion to the NSL marks the second consecutive year of their triumphant rise.

In the 2021/22 season, they emerged as champions of Division 2, displaying an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Joining Rainbow in the National Super League is Luanda Villa, who also clinched an automatic promotion spot.

In a thrilling Division One Zone B encounter at Mumboha Grounds, Luanda Villa secured a vital 1-0 victory against Zoo FC.

This victory was a sweet redemption for Luanda Villa, as they had narrowly missed out on promotion in the 2020/21 season during their playoff match against SS Assad.

While Rainbow and Luanda Villa celebrate their well-earned promotions, the race for the third and final promotion spot continues.

Zoo FC and Nairobi United will lock horns in a nerve-wracking one-legged playoff match on Sunday, August 6.

The victor will have the privilege of joining Rainbow FC and Luanda Villa in the 20-team National Super League.
