Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reminisces about Marcus Rashford's heroic display in Manchester United's historic win over PSG, likening his mental fortitude to football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
In a reminiscent dive into Manchester United's epic victory over Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, former Red Devils' boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Marcus Rashford's exceptional mental fortitude, akin to football legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The nail-biting encounter saw Rashford convert a crucial penalty at the nick of time to secure an unthinkable comeback for United at Parc des Princes.
Rashford's Legendary Performance
Recalling the historic moment, Solskjaer highlighted Rashford's unwavering resilience in the face of immense pressure. He likened the young striker's composure to the likes of Ronaldo and Messi, acknowledging the mental strength required to deliver such a significant performance on a grand stage.
"We only needed another goal. We'd already surprised them by scoring two. I said that if we got to the last 10 minutes needing only a goal, then it was squeaky-bum time for them, they’d wobble. And we did," he told FourfourTwo.
"Marcus was shooting from distance against Gianluigi Buffon. That’s what you want Marcus to do. Give the goalkeeper something to think about.
"Players who can handle that pressure are the best: Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and, after 94 minutes, Marcus with that penalty – a brilliant one, right in front of the away fans, to send us through to the quarter-finals.
"I ran across the pitch to celebrate with the players and the fans in the rain. Then we went back to the dressing room. It was electric."
