Real Madrid have now failed to score in their last two matches across all competitions.
Real Madrid lost further to bitter rivals FC Barcelona in the LaLiga title race after dropping further points on Sunday.
Real failed to find the back of the net for the second game in a row after sharing the spoils with Real Betis following a goalless affair at Benito.
Following Barcelona’s hard-earned win over Valencia earlier on, Real Madrid came into the game against Real Betis knowing only a win would be enough to keep the pressure on their bitter rivals.
However, after 90 minutes at the Estadio Benito Villamarin, Carlo Ancelotti’s men led by Karim Benzema were expertly caged by the hosts
Benzema came the closest to goal for both sides when he netted a perfect free kick in the first half but the VAR ruled it out for a foul.
Real Betis showed that their fifth position on the LaLiga table was no fluke with a solid defensive performance despite missing two of the star players against Real Madrid.
The LaLiga match in brief
A keenly contested encounter between Real Betis and defending champions Real Madrid came to an end with nothing to separate them.
Both teams needed a win to keep pace with the rest in the top four but a strong battle in midfield throughout the game in Benito saw them fail to create enough to break each other down.
In the end, it was a share of the spoils as both teams registered their first clean sheet in five matches for the hosts, Real Betis, and four for Real Madrid.
What the result means
After the barren affair in Benito and Barcelona’s earlier victory, Real Madrid are now nine points behind their bitter rivals in the race for the LaLiga title.
For Betis, they missed the chance to move into the top four as they remain fifth on the table, three points behind fourth-placed Real Sociedad.
