Ancelotti confirms that two key players will be rested against Cadiz with the UCL game against Chelsea in view
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed the absence of two key players ahead of the team’s trip to Cadiz in LaLiga.
Real Madrid to be without key players against Cadiz
Real Madrid are virtually out of the LaLiga title race after falling 13 points behind Barcelona with only 10 games left in the season.
Still, their trip to Cadiz in the league has been made even more complicated by the absence of two key players as confirmed by Carlo Ancelotti.
Speaking ahead of the weekend fixture against the relegation strugglers, Ancelotti noted that Los Blancos would be without winger Vinicius Junior and midfielder Toni Kroos who will both miss the game through muscle overloads that require rest to prevent aggravation.
“Vini has an adductor overload and the same goes for Kroos,” Ancelotti said, before continuing, “There is no injury on the tests, but there is no need to risk them taking into account we have a game on Tuesday. There are some tired, but they travel.”
Real Madrid rest key players ahead of UCL run-in
The Real Madrid boss, however, confirmed that the pair will be fit for the crucial UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Chelsea.
When asked about Kroos and Vinicius’ possible participation against the Blues, Ancelotti simply replied, “Yes, they will be there.”
Kroos and Vinicius both missed Real Madrid training on Saturday ahead of the Cadiz game with Ancelotti keen on resting his prized assets ahead of an end-of-the-season push for the UCL title.
Real Madrid’s quest for consecutive UCL trophies has them with one foot in the semifinals already after a 2-0 first-leg win over Chelsea at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the return leg set for Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge on Tuesday this week.
Vinicius, who has scored six goals and assisted four more in nine appearances in the competition as well as midfield Linchpin, Kroos, a veteran of four other UCL triumphs will be key to Los Blancos if they are to repeat the cup run from the 2021/22 season.
