Duran vs Haaland: How Villa striker is competing with Man City marksman
The Colombian netted the match-winning goal at West Ham on Saturday, seeing him edge closer to Haaland in one statistic.
The coveted John Duran
The 20-year-old Colombia international signed from MLS side Chicago Fire in the 2022/23 season's winter transfer window and has served as an understudy to Ollie Watkins.
Starting only three matches last season, he scored five goals in the Premier League, a tally he has almost matched his campaign, with four goals in zero starts and six appearances.
This incredible potency has placed him on the radar of a number of top clubs, including Real Madrid, who are now said to be on the lookout for him.
Real Madrid eyeing Duran
According to Football Insider, the Spanish giants, who only have 18-year-old Endrick as their senior out-and-out striker, are planning to enter the market in the summer of 2025 for a centre-forward.
Per the report, they have been impressed with Duran, and the Colombian star is high on their list. The former Envigado mad had a spate of suitors last summer, but the Villans wrestled them off.
However, they could be open to selling him next summer, especially if a club like Real Madrid comes knocking, with a £50 million price tag quoted as a possible transfer fee.
