Real Madrid are on the brink of bringing in a striker this summer in what is described as their last offensive signing of the summer
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has reportedly informed fans of the imminent arrival of Spanish forward Joselu Mato in the coming days.
Perez confirms Joselu signing
Joselu who is currently at relegated Espanyol has been a target for Real Madrid since before the departure of captain Karim Benzema, and his signing has been moved to priority following the Frenchman’s departure to Saudi Arabia.
The gap left by Benzema forced Los Blancos to move quickly for the former Real Madrid B team star as they sought to plug a hole up front without the resources to make a move for Paris Saint-Germain frontman Kylian Mbappe this summer.
Instead of another Frenchman, they have decided to sign 33-year-old Joselu who has been making history with the Spanish national team after his dream debut under current head coach Luis de la Fuente and president Perez has reportedly informed Real Madrid fans that a deal is close.
Joselu on the brink of Real Madrid deal
Joselu has scored three goals in his last four appearances for Spain, becoming both the country’s oldest debutant and oldest debut goalscorer in the history of the national team.
He also helped Spain become champions of the UEFA Nations League with a goal in the final penalty shootout.
The trophy was the climax to a superb individual season for Joselu which saw him score 16 goals in 33 matches for Espanyol to reach a career-high for league goals in the twilight of his career.
Real Madrid will be hoping that the Spaniard can continue his fine form into the 2023/24 season when he joins them for a second despite having seven clubs in between his two spells in the capital.
