Real Madrid continue to show that they are the dominant side in the UEFA Champions League with another semifinal place booked this season
Real Madrid once again proved that they are the masters of the Uefa Champions League after a routine two-punch knockout against Chelsea to reach the 2022/23 semifinals.
Real Madrid were superb against a plucky Chelsea side and held their nerve to see off the Blues thanks to two goals from Brazilian sensation Rodrygo Goes.
Real Madrid overcome Chelsea fight back
The Blues thought they had the Madridistas on the rope with some attacking momentum in the first half, but Real Madrid proved that they are masters of the competition, hitting Chelsea with two devastating counterattacks to win 2-0 at Stamford Bridge and claim a 4-0 aggregate triumph over Frank Lampard’s men.
Real Madrid also knocked Chelsea out at this stage of the competition last season and went on to win the UCL title, the 14th Champions League crown in the club’s history.
Real Madrid have now won twice as many UCL trophies as the next best team, AC Milan who have secured an impressive seven Champions League trophies, including two under current Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti.
Real Madrid reach new UCL milestones
The victory against Chelsea took Los Blancos closer to a 15th title which would extend their record over other European teams.
While winning the competition at the end of the season is still not a given, as Real Madrid face either Bayern Munich or Manchester City in the semifinals, Los Blancos have already extended another record by qualifying past Chelsea into yet another semifinal.
The 2022/23 semifinal will be Real Madrid’s 16th in Champions League history, at least four more than the next best teams, including fierce rivals Barcelona, who like Bayern Munich have reached 12 semifinals.
The record is made even more remarkable by Real Madrid’s recent performances in the competition which has seen them reach the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League in 11 of the last 13 seasons.
After the victory over Chelsea, Real Madrid will be looking forward to finishing the season strong with a UCL win after faltering in LaLIga.
