Manchester came back from behind to defeat West Ham 3-1 and book a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Said Benrahma gave West Ham the lead 10 minutes after the break but Manchester United rallied back, forcing an own goal from Nayef Aguerd before teenage sensation Alejandro Garnacho scored the winning goal and Fred made sure of the points deep in stoppage time at Old Trafford.

How it happened

Manchester United showed off the Carabao Cup before kick-off but seemed to be suffering a cup final hangover when the game started. Sloppy passes and an uncharacteristic lack of energy epitomised the opening exchanges.

Erik ten Hag’s men created early chances but efforts by Marcel Sabitzer and Alejandro Garnacho were repelled by the impressive West Ham keeper Alphonse Areola.

The hosts were then given a scare when Said Benrahma played Michail Antonio through on goal, although the striker was closed down by David de Gea and Tomas Soucek headed an opportunity just wide.

Second half

United boss, Ten Hag called on Casemiro at the start of the second half in a bid to add some extra urgency after an insipid first-half display.  However, the Red Devils conceded the game's opening goal against the run of play.

The United defenders wrongly assumed Soucek had allowed the ball to run out of play while West Ham played on and Emerson Palmieri found Benrahma, who rifled his strike into the top corner.

Marcus Rashford were introduced immediately to help turn the game and a few minutes later, Casemiro thought he had equalised after heading in Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick but had strayed offside.

United finally equalised five minutes later. Nayef Aguerd headed the ball past his own goalkeeper in an unfortunate error to restore parity and the momentum swung firmly in United's favour from that point on.

The hosts finally got what their dominance deserved in the 90th minute, as Garnacho cut inside before producing a fine finish.

In added time, Fred made sure of the victory with a simple finish.

Player of the match - Alejandro Garnacho

Garnacho was United’s only real spark in a tepid first half and he capped an exciting display with a deserved match-winning goal.
