Reece stops Doku
From kick off, the match promised to be a high-octane clash, with both teams showing a clear intent to outwit the other.
However, despite an enthralling display that served eight goals from both clubs, it was the head-to-head battle between Chelsea’s right-back, James, and City youngster, Doku, that turned out to be one of the key highlights and talking points.
The 23-year-old defender whose campaign has been blighted by injuries asserted his influence on the dribbling sensation, who only last weekend made Premier League history after he assisted four goals and scored one.
Against Chelsea, while many expected more of the same from the talented Belgian, a masterclass from Chelsea’s captain James denied the 21-year-old forward any room to manoeuvre, limiting his impact on the match as Blues ended City’s six-game winning streak against them.
The Stats
As the skipper thwarted every attempt by Doku to break free and cause havoc, Chelsea took advantage to also attack their visitors.
One of such attacks saw the academy graduate pick up an assist after he set up former City boy, Raheem Sterling, for Chelsea’s second goal of the game.
In terms of the numbers behind James’ display, he completed the most tackles in the encounter.
He also made two clearances, won six ground duels and created two chances before he was subbed off in the 64th minute.
Meanwhile, for Doku, despite completing three take-ons, he was unable to create a single chance or make a key pass during his almost an hour on the pitch while he was also limited to just 29 touches.
