One of Messi's international teammates has received support from his manager amid goal-scoring slump.

Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi expressed satisfaction with his team's 2-0 Serie A victory over Como on Monday, while also addressing concerns about captain Lautaro Martínez's recent goal drought.

Second-half goals from Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram sealed maximum points for the Nerazzurri, whose performance was far from their best against the promoted side.

Despite the success, Martinez fired blanks again, extending the Inter captain’s drought to eight club games in all competitions since finding the net against Venezia in early November.

What Inzaghi said about Martinez’s continued drought

Despite Martínez's lack of goals since November 3, Inzaghi remains unconcerned, highlighting the Argentine's work ethic and contribution to the team during a busy period.

The Inter boss then expressed his belief that his captain’s luck would change sooner rather than later.

“I was a striker, I know these moments happen,” insisted Inzaghi after Monday's result. “Last Monday, Lautaro was one of the most positive performers against Lazio.

“The forwards are working hard, we ask a lot of them and are trying to rest them as much as possible in the circumstances.

“I told Lautaro to relax because he has always scored goals and always will, luck will turn and he should only be worried if he doesn’t get scoring opportunities.”
