Over a month after getting released by Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC, midfielder Garcia Mpongo Mbombo has signed for Rwandan side Kiyovu FC.
According to Swift Sports, Mpongo has linked up with former SC Villa head coach Petros Koukouras, who serves the same role at Kiyovu.
The attacking midfielder only spent a season at Vipers, that was fruitful in terms of glory, as he lifted both the Uganda Premier League title and the Uganda Cup.
In terms of playing time, the DRC national was hugely limited by the competition, eventually racking up just five league appearances.
Before the Venoms, Mpongo played for Breme RCK, DCMP, St Eloi Lupopo in DRC, Etoile de Congo in Congo Brazzaville and Deportivo de Huila as well as Porcelena FC in Angola.
Meanwhile, Kiyovu, who finished the 2022/23 season second with 63 points, behind eventual champions APR, will play in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.
Koukouras has already made a coup in the UPL, signing the duo of Brian Kalumba and goalkepeer Emmanuel Kalyowa.
