Leicester City are reportedly set to turn to the former Aston Villa coach to take the reins in the EFL Championship
After suffering relegation to the EFL Championship, Leicester have found replacing manager Dean Smith quite tricky and have set their sights on a former England international to fill the void.
Leicester struggle to replace Smith
Smith took over from Brendan Rodgers after the Welshman led Leicester to the bottom of the table.
Tasked with helping Leicester escape relegation before the end of the season, Smith’s failure to keep the Foxes up ultimately cost him a renewal at the club.
A number of managers have been linked to the vacant job at Leicester, including former gaffer Claudio Ranieri, but the Foxes are reportedly leaning towards former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard to take the helm at the King Power Stadium.
Gerrard’s Aston Villa failures ignored by Leicester City
Gerrard left Aston Villa after the club were 13th in November 2022 and has been without a job since then as he waits for the perfect opportunity.

The former Liverpool midfielder left Aston Villa only six points from the relegation zone and with the Villans securing a place in Europe after his departure, Gerrard’s quality as a manager has been called into question.
Despite the drawbacks, he is still reportedly favoured by Leicester’s hierarchy, especially as he has experience managing in the EFL Championship.
