For Remo Stars, the defeat now sees them rooted to fifth in Group A, and nine points behind leaders Bendel Insurance.
Remo Stars failed in their quest to reclaim their place among the top three teams in Group A, as they lost 2-0 to bottom-placed Nasarawa United in their Week 9 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture on Monday.
The defeat becomes the third for Remo Stars who had started the season well and failed to lose in any of their first four fixtures.
As it stands, they have now failed to win and secure all three points in their last four league fixtures.
John Joshua opens the scoring against Remo
Having tasted victory for the first time this season in their last home match against Kwara United, the Solid Miners were ready to give anything for another shot at three points.
Just eight minutes into the contest at the New Jos Stadium, John Joshua John put Nasarawa United in front with a header from a King Osanga corner kick, putting Remo Stars on the back foot early on.
Remo Stars continued to push hard for an equalizer but failed to produce great chances, as the interval came fast at them.
Ogbole seals the win
The second half, like the first, saw Nasarawa United get their job done early on, yet again, with Emmanuel Ogbole this time the goalscorer, to give his side a two-goal cushion in the 47th minute.
The second goal will ultimately become the match-winner as it somewhat demoralized the Ikenne club from putting up any sort of fight that could have been worrying for the hosts.
With their second win of the season, Nasarawa United now exit the relegation zone in Group A, going past Kwara United and El Kanemi Warriors who would meet themselves on Wednesday.
For Remo Stars, the defeat now sees them rooted to fifth in Group A, and nine points behind leaders Bendel Insurance.
