Lauren James has been up to old tricks after getting caught stamping Arsenal's Lia Walti as she did Nigeria's Michelle Alozie at the World Cup
Chelsea women’s forward Lauren James is in the news for the wrong reasons once again after appearing to stamp on the foot of Arsenal midfielder Lia Walti during the Blues’ humiliating 4-1 defeat in the FAWSL.
James involved in another stamping incident
James played 75 minutes during Chelsea’s disappointing loss in the London derby and was largely subpar in performance, with her major highlight showing her in a bad light.
The England international escaped getting sent off after she stamped on the foot of Arsenal’s Walti, leaving many to wonder how the Chelsea star avoided a straight red card.
It is not the first time that James has found herself on the wrong side of a brutal stamp after getting sent off during England’s World Cup second-round match against Nigeria for stepping on Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie.
As opposed to the World Cup sending off, James appears to have escaped any repercussions for the stamp on Walti in the FAWSL as the FA have yet to bring up any charges against the England international.
Chelsea defend James after stamping incident
Despite escaping an FA charge so far, James did not escape the wrath of online football fans who hurled abuse at the 22-year-old on social media, prompting Chelsea to issue a statement of support for the attacking midfielder.
The Blues wrote in their statement, “Chelsea Football Club condemns the online abuse directed towards Lauren James following Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal.
“The club stands strongly against any form of abuse and discriminatory behaviour. Discrimination has no place at Chelsea Football Club or in any of our communities. We will take action against any individual that we can identify. We stand with you, Lauren."
James has been in good form for Chelsea this season, scoring six goals and assisting one more in eight league matches for the Blues.
