Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has reportedly been given a deadline to sign a new contract with Napoli

According to reports in Italy, Napoli have issued a deadline for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to sign a new contract at the club after months of negotiations.

Napoli offer Osimhen new deal

Osimhen’s current deal at Napoli runs out in 2025, but the club intends to tie him to a longer contract, with teams circling for the Super Eagles striker.

The 24-year-old forward was crucial for Napoli in the 2022/23 season, scoring 31 goals in 39 games for the Partenopei, including 26 Serie A goals as they claimed their first Serie A title in 33 years.

Given his incredible performance, Osimhen has unsurprisingly become a target for many top clubs, including the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Al Hilal, who were prepared to offer the striker up to £1 million per week.

Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has always maintained his intent to keep Osimhen with the club and the Partenopei have opened talks with the Nigerian striker since the end of the 2022/23 season, but are yet to find a total agreement.

According to Calciomercato, the club and player have agreed to a salary structure on the new contract but are yet to decide on an appropriate release clause for the forward in the new deal, which has held up the signing of the contract.

The Italian outlet also claims that Napoli have now given Osimhen until January 2024 to agree to a new contract before taking the deal off the table.

Osimhen has also confirmed his intention to stay at Napoli and has begun the new season with three goals in three games, but will also have thoughts of a move away from the club on his mind as contract talks drag on.
