Veteran midfielder Mieno believes Sofapaka have enough to win the Premier League title but must ensure consistency starting with Sunday’s clash with Posta Rangers

Sofapaka’s new signing Humphrey Mieno is confident his team will down Posta Rangers in their Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) clash on Sunday.

The veteran midfielder, who joined Batoto ba Mungu as a free agent from Tusker in the off-season transfer window when his contract ended, believes his side has enough to bounce back from their 1-0 loss to Bandari on Matchweek Two.

“As a team, I trust it is important to focus on one game at a time, I know they (Posta) are a good team judging by their last outings where they surprised everyone by white-washing Kenya Police FC 3-0 but that is history,” Mieno said, as quoted by the club’s website.

“All our attention now is to play according to the coach’s script and produce positive results at the end of the 90 minutes.”

Mieno, who signed a one-year renewable deal, is now in his third stint at Sofapaka, having been part of the team in 2011 before returning in 2014 after a short stint with Club Africain in Tunisia.

The former Tusker captain also feels Sofapaka should have lofty ambitious such as winning the title.

“Sure, why not? we have a very good squad and a very dedicated technical bench that are up to the task and are go getters. I know if we concentrate on a garnering three points while not dropping any, we will definitely accomplish the team’s goal,” he added.

The 33-year-old has also featured for Mahakama, KCB, AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia in the country as well as St George in Ethiopia and Azam FC in Tanzania.

Meanwhile, Sofapaka’s new Burundian coach Francis Haringingo is also targeting maximum points against Posta Rangers having worked on what let his side down against Bandari.

“The FIFA break has really helped us because we have gone back to the drawing board and rectified a few mistakes we made in our duels against Gor and Bandari. We are now ready to go to war against Posta and we urge our fans to come in large numbers and support us,” said Haringingo.

Sofapaka opened the 2023-24 Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Gor Mahia before the defeat to Bandari.
