Barcelona executive talks about Messi's return after Inter Miami fail to make playoffs
Barcelona vice president Eduard Romeu addresses speculations about Lionel Messi's return to the club.
Felix was reportedly given a salary of only €400,000 (£345,000) per year before completing his move to last season's title winners.
His weekly pay breakdown was £6,635, which is small for a professional football player and much less than his teammates' who earn £700,000 weekly.
His compensation was to be increased under the terms of the deal once Barcelona's financial situation was resolved.
Felix is now set to get an annual salary increase of 900 per cent, meaning he will receive €4 million (£3.45 million) for the remainder of his season-long loan.
However, his new wage of £66,345 per week is still far less than the rumoured €280,000 (£250,000) per week contract he was on at Atletico.
Barceona vice-president confirms Felix salary
Eduard Romeu, vice-president of Barcelona has acknowledged the move made by the club and praised Felix's professionalism.
He told Spanish outlet L'Esportiu as reported by Daily Mail, “It’s true, Joao Felix has reduced his salary to €400,000 (£345,000) to join. It is the case of a person who has made a very important effort to join.
“It's very nice to see this from a guy who was probably not at his best at his club, but here he has been magnificent.
“Make no mistake about it, however, the club that gave Felix to us has an interest in this being a great showcase. Hopefully, at the end of the year, we will have the conflict of having to consider his continuity.”
Felix has had an incredible first season with Xavi's team, recording three goals and three assists in eight games across all competitions.
