The Glamour Boys have been greatly aided by their fans who have turned up in large numbers to push them through as they eye a return to the top flight since 2006
Shabana fans have proved to be the backbone of the team this season, having helped the club raise over Ksh1.1 million from 10 of their 11 home matches so far.
The Glamour Boys are hot favourites to return to the top flight, for the first time since 2006, following a great run of form in the second-tier National Super League but that has been aided greatly by the relentlessness of their supporters, who have been turning out in large numbers to push them.
With the club employing a transparent approach where gate collections for each home match are made public, fans have responded by turning up at Gusii Stadium with 11,966 witnessing 10 of their 11 home matches so far, translating into Ksh1,160,850 in gate collection.
The local derby between Shabana and Gusii United is the hottest ticket in town, having seen 1,763 fans turn up for the match, with Ksh212,700 raised from the contests while their game against Mwatate witnessed the lowest collection of Ksh70,000.
It is a gesture that the club hierarchy is grateful for since the gate collection have greatly boosted their coffers, given the club do not have a sponsor.
“We have created transparency between the management, players and fans,” Shabana Secretary General Nyanchoka Kerama told Pulse Sports.
“We don’t have a sponsor and the players and fans know this, whatever little we get, we reveal it publicly and share with them (players).
“That inclusivity has left them motivated and with the urge to win matches. The players, management and fans are satisfied because we all read from the same script. We need to encourage this so that even when sponsors come, they know there will be accountability.”
Sammy Okoth’s side maintained their six-point lead at the top of the table following a 4-0 thrashing of Coastal Heroes at Gusii Stadium on Sunday, pushing them closer to achieving promotion.
