Versatile midfielder's remarkable rise from youth squad to first team spurs hope for Sharks' title aspirations in the upcoming season.

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Kariobangi Sharks have announced the elevation of Sigmunn Maina from the youth team to the senior side.

The midfielder’s journey to the senior team was punctuated by an impressive league debut last season, leaving fans and pundits alike in awe of his potential.

Taking to the field in a clash against Sofapaka, Maina demonstrated a level of maturity and skill beyond his years.

The announcement, delivered with palpable excitement by Kariobangi Sharks on their official channels, has sent ripples of anticipation through the football community.

"Your favourite footballer has been elevated. Sigmunn Maina it is," the club's post exulted, accompanied by a picture of Maina in the team's iconic jersey.

Described as a versatile and powerful midfielder who occasionally plays as a striker, he is the ideal candidate to assist William Muluya's coached side next season in their quest for their maiden FKFPL title.

His promotion marks the latest chapter in Kariobangi Sharks' tradition of nurturing homegrown players.

He joins the esteemed ranks of Geoffrey Onyango, Mathew Kibiwott, Isaac Wasambo, Ghai Panchol, and Fortune Omoto – all products of the club's youth academy who have successfully transitioned to the highest echelons of Kenyan football.

Sharks finished in a disappointing 11th position last season and have yet to make announcements about new signings, with only eight days remaining until the start of the 2023/24 FKPL season.
