The defending champion will be eyeing four wins in four games against Lobi
The defending champions, Rivers United, will begin their title defense against Lobi Stars of Makurdi at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
Rivers United is drawn in Group B of the abridged season.
The Port-Harcourt-based Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side will be leveraging on their impressive run on the continent.
Rivers United will be going into the game with high hope with the services of some of its newly recruited players, including Bolaji Sakin, Kenechukwu Agu, Emmanuel Ampiah, and Abiodun Akande.
Rivers United targets fourth consecutive home win against Lobi stars
The Pride of Rivers will hope to make it four consecutive home wins in the league games against Lobi Stars.
The Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for Rivers United over the past few years, with three wins yielded from the team's last three games as host Lobi Stars.
Eguma is happy with the League resumption
Rivers United, Technical Manager Stanley Eguma is happy that the league has resumed and added that the resumption will help his team's performance on the continent.
He said, "We are happy the league is back. Having been active in CAF inter-club competition, we hope that will be an added advantage going into the game on Sunday."
On his part, Lobi stars Head coach, Baba Gananu reveals his team's confidence is high ahead of the season opener.
"Confidence is high from preseason and we look forward to a great game against the champions," he said.
Rivers United won the league with 77 points, and Chijoke Akuneto netted 19 goals to emerge as the league’s top scorer, while Rafiu Ishaq had 14 goals.
