Both sides played out an entertaining goalless draw taking the game straight to penalties which Simba won 3-1, with goalkeeper Ally Salim saving three penalties, including one from Khalid Aucho.

Simba SC head coach Robertinho Oliviera can now afford a smile after he got one over arch-rivals Young Africans in the Charity Shield on Sunday evening at the Mukwakwani stadium in Tanga.

Both sides played out an entertaining goalless draw taking the game straight to penalties which Simba won 3-1, with goalkeeper Ally Salim saving three penalties, including one from Khalid Aucho. 

Uganda Cranes international Gift Fred made the 18-man squad but could only watch from the bench, while Aucho featured in the entire game.

The charity shield win is Simba’s first silverware in two seasons, with Young Africans having dominated with two domestic treble campaigns.

Muzamiru Yassin, Willy Onana and Jean Baleke scored for the Msimbazi street-based side, while Saido Ntibazonkiza and Moses Phiri missed their spot kicks.

Only Stephanie Aziz KI converted from 12 yards for Young Africans, while Khalid Aucho, Pacome Zouzoua and Kouassi Yao couldn’t find the target.

‘Tiimu ya Wananchi’ will now focus on defending the league, which gets underway on Tuesday, 15th August, with Simba playing away to Mutibwa Sugar on Thursday.

Khalid Aucho and Gift Fred are expected to be in action for Young Africans on 19th August against KMC.
