Arsenal and the Rwanda tourism Board first signed the sponsorship in 2018 in a deal worth about $10 million per year for three years. The partnership was renewed in 2021 on undisclosed terms that media reported to be around $100 million up to 2025.
Rwanda’s president Paul Kagame is preparing for a windfall in case Arsenal goes on to win the English Premier League this season.
The Gunners are currently leading the Premier League table with 60 points after match day 25 and could go on to win their first title since the 2003-04 season if they stay on course.
Kagame believes that the win could trickle down to the East African nation that has a running partnership with the Gunners to advertise their rich tourism sites using the ‘Visit Rwanda’ brand on their shirt sleeve.
“Of course, the better we, I mean Arsenal, perform towards getting the ultimate prize, it brings more dividends, absolutely,” Kagame was quoted by The New Times. He was speaking to journalists at his official residence, Village Urugwiro, on Monday
“Imagine this season if we become the champions, I will be rushing to the bank to collect some money. We are getting more, by a big factor,” he said about the benefits of the deal.
