The former Vipers, Express FC and KCCA FC creative midfielder, who is currently unattached, is part of several former footballers undertaking a month-long CAF C coaching course organized by the Uganda Footballers Association.
Saddam Juma is not your ordinary Ugandan footballer; from his time at Kampala Kids League, the 29-year-old always stood out with his stylish and calm persona.
The former Vipers, Express FC and KCCA FC creative midfielder, who is currently unattached, is part of several former footballers undertaking a month-long CAF C coaching course organized by the Uganda Footballers Association.
Saddam says the inspiration to pursue coaching badges stems from when he was training youngsters in Kabalagala and Nsambya suburbs during the two-year COVID-19 period.
“My inspiration to do the coaching course came during the COVID-19 period when I was working with a group of youngsters in the suburbs of Nsambya and Kabalagala,” he noted.
“The youngsters were eager to learn from me, so I promised myself that when I get the opportunity to study, I will grab it with both hands, which I have done.”
Former Cranes stars Hassan Wasswa, Brian Umony, Tonny Mawejje and Mike Mutyaba are some of Saddam’s classmates, and he adds that it is suitable for them and the game.
“I and the ex-players here have benefited a lot. Yes, we played the game, but understanding it is the other aspect; the attention to detail and how we should pass on the knowledge is a good experience.”
Former Cranes striker Brian Umony who is doing his internship at Proline FC also stressed the need to pursue and execute the course.
“It’s a good experience; soon, I intend to hit the ground running; I ask all people with my background to take this on because we need as many qualified Ex players as possible.”
Saddam Juma last featured for record league champions SC Villa for one season. However, when asked if he has retired and ventured into coaching, ‘Juma Nature’ scoffed.
“For now, I am doing my course. The rest we shall see after this, but what’s for sure is that I will use this experience even when I am still active.”
With the rising need for upcoming young coaches by different clubs growing by the day, the availability of most ex-players after attaining coaching badges will undoubtedly be a considerable boost in Ugandan football.
