Like all other athletes, former Uganda Cranes midfielder Saddam Ibrahim Juma is no different from having a mentor in his new coaching journey.
Saddam, currently unattached, is pursuing a coaching career, having completed his CAF C coaching course and obtained a license in April; he credits former SC Villa head coach Petros Koukouras for inspiring him into the role.
The 29-year-old made the revelation on his official Twitter handle while responding to Koukouras’ post after the two met at the Juventus Football Academy in Nanjing, China.
“Thanks a lot coach, and for opening up this first opportunity in my new career; you are one of the reasons why I started this,” Saddam tweeted.
Koukouras had shared a picture of him and Saddam earlier and captioned it with welcoming remarks for his former captain at SC Villa.
“Nice to meet you again a few thousand km (Kilometers) away from Kampala! All the best in your new coaching career, Saddam Juma,” Petros tweeted.
The Greek tactician was dismissed after he led SC Villa to a 12th-place finish during the 2021/2022 season.
He guided the side to the quarter-finals of the domestic cup, where they were eliminated by eventual winners BUL FC.
Koukouras’s season at the record league champions was also Saddam Juma’s last active season as a player, as he captained the side during the campaign.
Saddam Juma is currently at the Juventus Football Academy in Nanjing, China, to pursue his coaching career.
