Salim Jamal’s efforts have continued to be recognised after the goalkeeper won the player of the month for September/October.
Jamal emerged the best for the said period in the DStv Premiership winning himself R7,000 (approx. shs. 1.4 million)
During the said period, Jamal produced match-defining saves that led to six clean sheets for the eight games that his club Richards Bay played.
The team won four, drew four and lost no game in the premiership.
Jamal was recently recalled to the National team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania next week.
Rare awards
In the interesting awards held on Thursday morning, Jamal was feted alongside two other goalkeepers.
Melusi Buthelezi of TS Galaxy was the best player in August while Denis Onyango’s fellow shot-stopper at Mamelodi Sundowns, Ronwen Williams was the best of the December and January period.
Onyango’s coach Rhulani Mokwena was the best tactician in December/January as well.
The winners were selected by a judging panel that comprise commentators, analysts and journalists.
