Samuel Chukwueze biography
Samuel Chukwueze was born in Abia State, Nigeria on May 22, 1999, and plays football professionally for Spanish club Villarreal and the Nigeria national team, the Super Eagles.
He was born in the Umuahia area and grew up with his family including his parents and two siblings, a boy and a girl.
Chukwueze took up football early and was already playing when he was only eight years old. According to him, Nigerian footballing legend Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha was a source of inspiration for him during his childhood years.
He revealed that his family were opposed to the idea of him playing football earlier in his life as they were intent on him focusing on his education.
Good thing Chukwueze was eventually allowed to follow his dream and play football because he is currently one of the best Nigerian players in the world right now.
He burst into the limelight at the 2015 U17 World Cup, where he starred on the wing and caught the attention of the world, with the Spanish side.
Villarreal beat off competition for his signature when he joined their youth setup in 2017 from local side Diamond Football Academy.
After being initially assigned to the club's Juvenil A squad, Chukwueze made his senior debut with the reserves on 15 April 2018, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 1–1 Segunda Division B away draw against CE Sabadell FC.
Chukwueze made his first-team debut on 20 September 2018 in a 2–2 home draw against Rangers in the UEFA Europa League and has played a key role for the Yellow Submarine.

Samuel Chukwueze Career
Chukwueze came into the limelight after the 2015 U17 World Cup. Having been at Diamond Football Academy for about five years, Chukwueze signed for Villarreal in 2017, joining their B team before being promoted to the first team.
The then-19-year-old signed a senior contract on November 1, 2018, which made him a first-team player and his current deal runs through till June 2024.
He made his league debut against Levante on 5 November 2018, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at the Ceramica.
Perhaps his biggest moment at Villarreal so far was his goal against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, where his goal sealed Villarreal's first appearance in a Champions League semifinal, although they would lose out to Liverpool eventually.
He is currently enjoying a stellar season for the Yellow Submarine with 13 goals and 11 assists for the club in 49 games across all competitions, making it his most prolific campaign so far.
He was a part of the Villarreal team that won the Europa League title in the 2020/21 season as he played 11 times and scored once in the competition that season en route to his only senior professional trophy so far.
The only other trophy Chukwueze has won was the 2015 under-17 FIFA World Cup in which he contributed three goals and assists each in seven games to lead Nigeria to her fifth title at that level.

Before signing for Villareal, Chukwueze had been linked with Arsenal, with rumours that he had undergone a medical to sign a 4-year contract, while he was 16.
However, the move did not materialize. He was also rumoured to be the subject of a £30m bid from Liverpool in January 2020.
With just one year on his contract, Chukwueze is expected to leave Villarreal soon who may look to sell him this summer or risk losing him for free in a year.
