‘I don't know what Pioli sees in Musah’ - Italian pundit slams Pioli's treatment of Chukwueze
Respected Italian pundit Fabrizio Ponciroli didn't hold back as he criticised AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli for his handling of Samuel Chukwueze.
The 2022 title-winning Rossoneri boss is expected to leave the club after nearly five years in Milanello, keen to take on the challenge of managing in arguably the most competitive league in Europe.
What did Pioli say about a potential Premier League move?
“I am studying English, it might be the right time,” revealed Pioli after Milan's 3-3 draw with Salernitana. “We’ll see over the next 10-15 days, which could be decisive, but I don’t feel the pressure to choose anything in particular.
“My agent called in recent weeks, I told him not to tell me anything until the rapport with the club is concluded. I think something could happen over the next 10 days. I need to find something that stimulates me.”
Pioli brought Samuel Chukwueze to San Siro from Villarreal last summer but the Nigerian endured a mixed season at the club in year one.
The Nigerian was often in and out of the side, initially without a role in Pioli’s switch to a 4-3-3 from the previously utilised 4-2-3-1 before struggling to break into the side because of the form of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic after the manager reverted to his former approach.
Chukwueze played just 30% of the club's Serie A campaign, featuring 24 times, with 12 being starts. The forward scored one league goal in year one and set up three in 2023-24.
