Lazio were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Juventus, but Sarri was satisfied with the team's performance
Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri has said that he was disappointed that his team had crashed out of this season’s Coppa Italia after a loss to Juventus, but was not disappointed with how the team lost the game.
Lazio lost 1-0 to Juventus in a game of fine margins and the Italian manager has said that he was not disappointed with how the team played.
Sarri satisfied with Lazio performance
Speaking after the defeat, Sarri said, “It’s disappointing to go out, but we are not disappointed by the performance. Unfortunately, Ciro’s injury put us in a situation where these lads have played a lot throughout January, so perhaps they lost a bit of sharpness when playing so often.
“We play every three or four days and have basically not trained in a month. Ciro’s return will therefore help us to rotate a bit more.”
Despite being satisfied with the overall play by his side, Sarri did note one area where Lazio could have done better in the loss to Juventus.
We were just lacking something in the final third, but we largely allowed Juve very little and were in control,” Sarri said after the loss.
“We just failed to make our mark when it came to filling the box, taking the initiative and breaking through, as there were very few spaces with Juventus sitting deep to wait for us. We needed that initiative to find a way through.”
Lazio fail to make possession pay
Lazio managed only one shot inside Juventus’ box throughout the 90 minutes of their Coppa Italia fixture which must have been a disappointment for Sarri.
Juventus, on the other hand, managed eight shots inside the Lazio penalty area, despite I Biancocelesti controlling most of the game and having 69% possession in the second half.
After being knocked out of the Coppa Italia, Lazio still have UEFA Champions League qualification in the league to fight for, as well as a possible deep run in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
