Argentina's World Cup winning manager Lionel Scaloni has extended his contract with the national team until 2026.
Scaloni, 44, led his country to a dramatic triumph at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar where they defeated France on penalties in a fever-pitched final.
He was appointed head coach by the Argentina Football Association (AFA) in 2018 and won the Copa America in 2021 to strengthen his position in the eyes of fans and players.
Scaloni extends deal with Argentina
Scaloni renewed his contract after meeting with AFA president Claudio Tapia in Paris on Monday, where they were both present to attend FIFA's 'The Best' Awards with Scaloni being named Best Coach for 2022.
Scaloni's new deal takes him up to the 2026 World Cup, which will be in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
"I am eternally grateful to the president of the AFA for giving me the opportunity to coach this wonderful national team," Scaloni said on receiving the award.
"I'm thankful for the players, those 26 who led us to glory. Without them we could not have achieved anything."
Scaloni has a remarkable record as Argentina head coach. He has led the country to 37 wins, 15 draws and suffered just five defeats in 57 games at the helm.
