Senegal had replaces AFCON-winning coach Aliou Cissé following poor performances, appointing an interim coach ahead of crucial qualifiers.
Former Birmingham City and Portsmouth midfielder Aliou Cisse has been replaced as the head coach of Senegal’s national football team, the Teranga Lions, following his dismissal by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF).
Cisse, who led the national team to their historic Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in 2022, has come under increasing scrutiny for his recent decisions and results.
The FSF has appointed Pape Thiaw, Cisse’s former assistant and a highly regarded coach within Senegalese football, as the interim manager.

'Thank you, Champion!'- Sadio Mane sends heartfelt farewell message to former Senegal coach Aliou Cisse
Al Nasr striker Sadio Mane has paid tribute to former Senegal coach Aliou Cisse after his dismissal honoring his leadership and contributions.
The federation’s decision to part ways with Cissé follows Senegal’s disappointing performance at the recent CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire, where the defending champions were eliminated in the round of 16.
Thiaw, a former Senegalese international who was part of the country’s famous 2002 World Cup squad, has built an impressive coaching résumé. He served as Cisse’s assistant and led the Senegalese U-23 team to victory in the 2022 African Nations Championship.

However, his recent tactics and selections have come under fire from the Senegalese public, particularly following the team’s early exit from the 2023 AFCON.
