Southgate challenged by players
The Telegraph reports that the England team's response to the decision to leave Grealish out of the team has been a concern.
The Manchester City star is reportedly paying the price after a dismal season with the Premier League winners, as Southgate has already stated he will not be travelling to Germany.
According to Daily Mail, one player spoke with Southgate right away to try and make sense of the call and assist in explaining it to teammates.
They continue by saying that Grealish was "stunned and upset," yet there's no indication that the choice caused conflict or confrontation.
Players were "shocked" to learn that Grealish would be leaving, according to The Telegraph, and some even told him he ought to have stayed with the team.
He wished the surviving team and staff well ahead of the competition, according to reports, and his departure was handled "professionally."
Grealish made the quick decision to accompany the team at their training camp in Darlington after cutting short his vacation.
According to reports, his dedication to the team and his effective substitute performance against Bosnia on Monday gave rise to expectations that he would be named on the final roster.
