‘You led us to victory’ - Roma fans hold banner, chant Mourinho's name in first game after sack
In their first game without Jose Mourinho since he was fired by the Serie A club earlier this week, Roma fans overflowed with praise for the Portuguese manager.
An Emerging Talent
Born in 2002, Ankeye is a highly-rated striker who has already demonstrated his abilities on the field at a young age. His acquisition serves as a testament to Genoa's focus on building for the future rather than relying solely on established stars.
Ankeye’s career began at Sidos Academy, a grassroots club located in Lagos, Nigeria, which is renowned for producing talents like ex-Golden Eaglets winger Akinkunmi Amoo.
From his humble beginnings at Sidos Academy, Ankeye's talent quickly caught the eye of scouts, leading him to make a significant move to the Swedish club Hammarby. After his stint in Sweden, he embarked on an adventure to the Tunisian club Hammam Sousse, where he truly made his mark.
During his time there, Ankeye had a breakout season, netting an impressive seven goals and contributing with an assist in just fifteen matches in the highly competitive Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1.
His outstanding performances at Hammam Sousse garnered attention from clubs worldwide, eventually earning him a transfer to Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova. Ankeye continued to develop and impress during his six-month stay in Moldova, which ultimately led to his latest career move—a transfer to Serie A side Genoa.
His progression from grassroots football to professional clubs in Europe and now to Serie A is a testament to his dedication and skill, and he joins the ranks of budding Nigerian talents making waves in the footballing world.
