An injury-ravaged Real Madrid side came back from a goal down to defeat Sevilla 2-1 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan thanks to a fine brace from Rodrygo.
With Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr unavailable, Real Madrid knew they had to rely on Rodrygo for their attacking firepower as Carlo Ancelotti refused to show any faith in Eden Hazard.
Rodrygo responded as he led the line expertly, dragging Los Blancos from a goal down to a deserved 2-1 victory over Sevilla.
How it happened
Sevilla started the game on fire going in front after just three minutes through Rafa Mir, who buried a half-volley into the top corner.
José Luis Mendilibar’s men looked comfortable as they looked to build on their advantage, but they were pegged back just before the half-hour mark when Rodrygo’s free-kick beat a poorly set-up wall from 25 yards.
There were opportunities for Sevilla to restore their lead before the interval, with Erik Lamela striking the post before being denied by Thibaut Courtois and the two teams went in level at the break.
Real Madrid completed their comeback and made sure of the points 20 minutes from time and it was that man again, Rodrygo. The Brazilian weaved his way inside out before firing into the bottom corner to send the away fans into raptures.
