The Glamour Boys host Kibera Black Stars at Gusii Stadium on Saturday seeking victory to get closer to top flight promotion
Shabana FC Secretary General Nyanchoka Kerama has allayed fears that the club’s fans are planning to attack Kibera Black Stars supporters to avenge what they were subjected to when the two teams last met.
Shabana fans were attacked by Black Stars supporters when the two sides faced off at Ligi Ndogo grounds in February, with some sustaining injuries while others lost their valuables, during the match that the Glamour Boys lost 1-0.
Ahead of Saturday’s return match at Gusii Stadium, there have been reports that Shabana fans plan to respond in equal measure but Kerama says his club is putting in place an elaborate security arrangement to avoid any ugly scenes.
“We are planning to treat them in a friendly way to demonstrate some kind of sportsmanship. I think that will be the right way to show them that what they did is the wrong thing. We will not pay wrong with wrong,” Kerama told Pulse Sports.
“From where I sit, everything is in place. We will tactically change to show them some kind of love and maybe after the game, we can surprise them with something to show them how sports shouldn’t make us enemies.”
“I am in control of everything. In case there is some kind of tension, it is me who will put in place the security measures. What I am very sure of, because I have assessed the situation and everything, this will just be a game like any other game.”
Shabana lead the standings with 57 points, two ahead of second-placed Murang’a Seal, with a match in hand over their rivals, as they eye promotion back to the top flight after a 17-year wait.
Dr Kerama, therefore, feels there will be no need for any form of violence since the supporters know it might affect the team and halt their charge to the top.
“Our main objective will be getting the three points, nothing else. What we should embrace is that the opposing players have no problem so creating a hostile environment will not mean well for them,” he added.
“We have fan group officials and they know what it means to bring chaos in such a match. We have a good relationship with the security within Kisii county. Like now, we have informed the OCS and he will give us not less than 15 police officers and then we have between 20 and 25 stewards for this match.”
Shabana will open up a five-point lead if they win which will leave them in pole position with six matches remaining.
