Shabana FC's gate collections after the Nzoia clash disappoint, with attendance dropping to its lowest since promotion to top-flight.

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Shabana FC has unveiled the disheartening gate collections from their Saturday’s clash with Nzoia Sugar FC.

The match held at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay witnessed a mere 1,939 fans in attendance marking the lowest turnout since the team's promotion to the top-flight league after a staggering 17-year absence.

Regular tickets, priced at a modest Ksh 100, managed to find buyers among 1,396 supporters, generating a total revenue of Ksh 139,600.

The VIP section, commanding a higher ticket price of Ksh 300, welcomed 543 spectators, contributing Ksh 162,900 to the club's earnings.

In sum, the gate collections added up to Ksh 302,500—a far cry from the team's previous successes.

Sources from the club attributed several factors to this dismal showing in attendance. Adverse weather conditions in the Western Region, marked by heavy rains, likely deterred many fans from making the journey to the stadium.

Additionally, the past underwhelming performances by Shabana FC have also likely eroded the enthusiasm of their loyal supporters, further contributing to the low turnout.

A stark contrast to this underwhelming turnout was witnessed when Shabana FC faced off against Nairobi City Stars at Raila Odinga Stadium on September 23rd.

On that occasion, the club raked in a staggering Ksh 651,500, with 4,517 passionate fans filling the stadium to the brim to rally behind their beloved team.

The match itself saw a dramatic turn of events as early as the second minute when Nzoia Sugar FC found themselves down to ten men after their captain, Harun Thomas, was shown a red card for a dangerous foul on Dennis Ongeri.

Vincent Nyabuto, who has been in and out of Shabana's starting lineup, broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, opening the scoring for Shabana.

Just a minute after the halftime restart, Brian Michira netted his first-ever top-flight goal, doubling Shabana's lead. Despite a 61st-minute goal from Victor Haki that momentarily threatened to turn the tide, Shabana held on to secure the victory.

Shabana FC is now gearing up for their next match on November 25th when they will face table-toppers Posta Rangers.
